Everyday Play with Thea Munch

From quiet daily rituals to climbing, jumping, and constant exploring — discover how MODU has woven its way into everyday life with Thea Munch and her family. We visited Thea and her two-year-old son, Pablo, for a play session and a conversation about how MODU’s functionality and aesthetics make a perfect fit for the family and their minimal lifestyle.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your family?

My name is Thea. I’m a trained psychiatric nurse turned holistic therapist, and I now run my own studio where I offer 1:1 sessions in holistic body therapy and mentoring. I specialize in nervous system regulation — something I’m truly devoted to!

I live in Christianshavn, right in the heart of Copenhagen, with my husband Oscar, our two-year-old son Pablo, and our dog Mester. I’ve actually lived in Christianshavn my whole life — I love it here. It’s a little tucked away from the busy city centre, very local, surrounded by canals, and close to nature. It really feels like a small village within the city.

How did you first come across MODU, and how has it become part of your everyday life?

I discovered MODU shortly before giving birth to my son two years ago. I instantly fell for both the aesthetic and the practicality — how you can create endless variations of play with just a few blocks, suitable for so many ages! To me, that’s sustainability in a nutshell.

We started using MODU when Pablo was about four months old, and it’s still part of his daily play today — using the same sets we began with. That means a lot to me. We try to keep his toy collection minimal, partly for practical reasons (toys take up so much space!) and partly from a sustainability perspective.

Do you have a favorite play moment or memory with MODU that stands out?

Absolutely. Every afternoon, Pablo has his snack by our coffee table in the living room. We make his little stool using the MODU board and connector pegs as legs. He’ll sit there, snack in hand, and watch a bit of TV. He loves it — he’s very much into routines and rituals!

What’s Pablo’s (or your family’s) current favorite creation or way to play with MODU?

Recently, we added a few more blocks to his collection, and it’s opened up so many new ways to play! These days, we mostly build things he can climb onto, jump down from, or practice balancing on. Connecting three or four blocks in different ways always seems to spark new ideas and movement.
