A Playful Home with Marie-Louise Hald
On the beautiful island of Møn, Marie-Louise Hald enjoys summers with her family in their newly renovated holiday home, designed as a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. We visited Marie-Louise to discuss her thoughts and ideas behind creating the space and how MODU has found a perfect fit, enriching the family's day-to-day life throughout the summer.
What’s been important to you in creating this holiday home for your family?
The main goal has been to create a calm space where we can unwind and balance out our bustling city life. Since the house didn’t initially fit our style, we decided to strip all surfaces, apply microcement to the floor, and smooth the walls, creating a clean and soothing base. To soften the space, we’ve added various textiles and incorporated organic materials into the interior, such as a wooden kitchen, tying the house to its natural surroundings.
How is ‘play’ incorporated into the decor?
We have a play corner and toys stored throughout the house, but we’ve primarily focused on keeping the space very open to allow for flexibility and family time. We’ve chosen furniture that’s easy to move around and bring outside, like the daybed, which we often place on the terrace.
How does MODU fit into your everyday life here?
We really make use of the space we have, with the indoors and outdoors blending in a way that's different from our apartment. Hannah loves everything that involves balance and movement, so we spend a lot of time building long obstacle courses and ride-ons for her to scoot around on, both indoors and outside.
What have been some of your favorite play ideas this summer?
We’ve especially loved making obstacle courses! They’re perfect for Hannah's age and can be varied in many different ways. We've also had a great time building small staircases, tables, and chairs for her. These have been super handy for helping her reach the kitchen sink or enjoy snacks in a fun, new way.
Working day to day as a digital marketer, Marie-Louise uses her home as a canvas to express her passion for interior design. Get a closer look at the family's holiday home and their upcoming house renovation project on her Instagram here.
